Taoist Temples' Offerings | 神明的最愛-鳳片龜

已更新:2022年10月4日

Taoist Temples in Formosa mentioned that I've liked to accompany my parents to worship the Jade Emperor is as a part of my CNY's celebrating. The year of ox we just visited there again.

I shared the previous travelogue with Richard's auntie Elaine and she commented as a British and the first time to know about Taoism.

Taoism seems to be a very comforting religion which encourages ordinary people to worship in a relaxed way. It is good that people can connect to their gods through every day objects and even special foods.

While we walked into the temple in the morning, there were many offerings already easily set for prayers from the ordinary people. Isn't she a good observer? She never visited Taiwan but cleverly told our cultural stuff.

Among all offerings, the special food, turtle-shaped sticky rice cake, is what I like to share more in this travelogue. Look my mum who was interested to get some. We got two: healthy and make fortune with humble mind.

Turtle-shaped Sticky Rice Cake

George is the specialized baker to make the turtle-shaped sticky rice cake. He inherited his family business. The area his family lived is the most famous attractions - the Lotus Pond and Fengshan's Old Walled City, in Kaohsiung. As a walled city and good fengshui, there are many temples surrounded including the temple of Jade Emperor. The business of making the special food, has no doubt being continued.

The Prayer

The tutle-shaped cake my mum bought was exactly made by George.

With the sincere offerings prepared to worship the gods, we prayered the healthy, safety and propsperity for our family and business. The biggest prayer is to wish the world peace.

When God Closes a Door, He Opens a Window

However, since the pandemic spreading last year, George and Mary suffered the declined business because the visitors of temple dropped.

When God Closes a Door, He Opens a Window!

The 'window' was they were invited by Kaohsiung Old House Association, to become the performers of making craft wagashi (Japanese sweets). Traditional bakery becomes Creative craft studio in 2020.

By browsing FB posts day by day last summer, I appreciated this fascinated transforming and knew about George and Mary. The couple run their traditional bakery with creative and aesthetic feelings.
